The story behind SHUS
Our handmade felt shoes are made of 100% clean ECO-Friendly wool from New Zealand. The wool contains no toxic or allergenic substances and are also free form AZO dyes.
Our slippers are 100% hand made using the wet felting technique by clever and dedicated women from Nepal, which make our shoes unique. Our main goal is to give women in Nepal the possibility of employment in good surroundings. Many of the women have not had the opportunity of getting an education because of poverty, which limits their job possibilities. In our factory they are taught the craft, which ensures permanent employment – which improves their quality of life substantially.
Our various unique designs and colours make it possible for you to get the perfect solution to keep your feet warm and relaxed through the winter and cold periods – the perfect gift for friends, family, and for you! Our slippers are made after many months of research and development to give our customers great satisfaction with their warmth, unique design and comfort. The wool is coloured using environment friendly colours which do not contain harmful chemicals.
Care of your SHUS: clean spots with a damp cloth or wash by hand in luke warm water without soap – press gently and leave to dry.
The process – From start to finish
- Colour: the wool is first combed and coloured in the desired colour.
- Felting: the wool is shaped into a bundle to start the felting process, which includes continuous hand pressing for a couple of hours in lukewarm water and soap/cleaning materials. In this process the small wool fibres attach themselves to each other to create a whole kind of shoe.
- Forming: the foot shaped extractions are left to dry in the sun before the next process.
- Customization: an extra layer is added to the inner sole to make the shoe more comfortable to have on, the leather sole is added to make the shoe complete.
- Packaging: the slippers are then packed into our environment friendly fabric bags and are ready to be sent to you!
